Once upon a time, as I began writing The Consistency Advantage (TCA) book, I experienced a feeling I didnโt have a name for.
The book, which was approximately plate number EIGHT I was attempting to keep spinning, did not feel like another item on my to-do list. It energized me in the same way as MizFit of yore (shout-out to old timey readers). Itโs no overstatement to say TCA felt like a calling. An opportunity to practically prosthelytize and I was pulled towards completion of the manuscript with an ease Iโd not experienced in years.
TCA was not about adding author of another book to my resume. It was about sharing insights and experiences that changed the trajectory of my life and which I knew could have the same impact on yours.
Each morning, I dedicated time to visualizing its success. In these quiet moments (which admittedly initially felt silly) I imagined the weight of the finished book in my hands and envisioned readers finding value and community through its pages.
The real magic happened, however, when I surrendered to this inner pull. Instead of forcing the writing process into a predetermined mold, I allowed my excitement to guide me. I wrote daily, not out of obligation, but as a natural response to what I later learned many call magnetic desire.
This consistency wasn't a chore; it was a joyful commitment. Page by page, chapter by chapter, TCA took shape.
When I finally held the finished manuscript in my hands, I realized although we explore both in its pages The Consistency Advantage was more than a product of willpower or discipline. This accomplishment was the culmination of an irresistible inner drive that propelled me forward day after day.
Magnetic desire is the invisible force that propels us toward dreams, turning aspirations into achievements.
Magnetic desire is more than a checkbox on a daily agendaโit's an irresistible force that draws you toward your goal. In fact, I often found myself bypassing routine tasks, pulled instead toward working on TCA. This compelling attraction persists even in the face of obstacles.
Goals backed by magnetic desire have a different quality.
They simply don't feel like obligations.
๐งฒ Identifying YOUR Magnetic Desires
Not all goals are created equal in terms of magnetic pull. In fact, for me v e r y few are magnetic at all.
To identify which of your goals are backed by magnetic desire, pay attention to your emotional and mental responses.
Notice which goals energize you just by thinking about them. These are the ones that fill you with energy and anticipation. They're the dreams that keep you up at night, not with worry, but with enthusiasm.
Consider what changes you find yourself naturally taking steps towards. Think about the goals you gravitate towards in your free time, the ones you can't help but work on, even when you're supposed to be doing something else.
Reflect on which goals you keep returning to, even after setbacks. Magnetic desires are resilient. They don't vanish in the face of obstacles, but instead inspire us to get creative and carve new paths forward.
My experience with TCA exemplifies this resilience: I wrote. I finished! It was good *not* great. So I entirely (and joyfully) rewrote the whole thing.
๐งฒ Cultivating Magnetic Desire
While some goals naturally inspire us, we can cultivate desire for others by:
Connecting with our 'why'
Dig deep to understand the core reasons that make the goal meaningful. Explore how this goal aligns with your values and vision of your Future Self. Deeper understanding will fuel motivation.
Visualizing the outcome
I regularly visualized my completed manuscript in elaborate detail. I envisioned how success would look and feel. The more real we make this mental image, the stronger our desire becomes.
Seeking inspiration
Surround yourself with stories, people, and environments that reinforce your goal. Read books or articles about others who've achieved similar things.
External cues will help maintain and amplify our internal drive.
๐งฒ Harnessing Magnetic Desire for Change
Magnetic desire transforms goal achievement from forced effort into a natural pull.
To leverage this:
Prioritize naturally exciting goals. I was excited about TCA even though I knew it would require time and effort. Focus on goals that already spark enthusiasm as these have built-in magnetic desire. Pay attention to what energizes you and gives you a sense of anticipation.
Build desire through consistency (you *knew* the C Word was coming).
Take small, regular steps towards your goal, even when motivation feels low.
Celebrate minor victories (a chapter written! a chapter revised!) to maintain momentum.
Create a supportive environment (literal and metaphorical)
Surround yourself with a community who supports your goals.
Modify your physical space to reinforce your objectives.
Seek out books, movies, podcasts, magazines, substacksโanything and everything that align with your aspirations.
When we harness the power of magnetic desire it transforms our goals into energizing journeys powered by internal motivation. When we align our actions with goals that truly excite us, we create a path to success which is both enjoyable and effective.
Itโs MAGNETIC.
So much to think about. I feel as though I'm letting my age hold me back from following through on goals. At 73 โฆ why bother? What difference could it possibly make? That said โฆ I'm dealing with two health issues (minor and fixable, but painful). For me, pain = inertia/depression. Am working on one, the other just happened. I'm a klutz!
