From someone who had the words "say yes" tattooed to her wrist, I have to think hard when I say no.

Such a universal reminder that perspective is a choice. Great post.

The “no’s” to invitations can be delicate to navigate. Tough too when we have a fast paced life style and attempting to spend time with family. As I approach 65 my energy is not as high and I am more deliberate with who I spend time with. Wisdom? That is the story I tell my brain and I am ok with it:)

Super post and I enjoyed the feedback from the others. Thank you all!

That's it. Time can feel so short and if we kindasorta lean toward a YES -- by our point in life we KNOW as yes to one thing is always essentially a NO to something else.

I know your experience is probably different, as I don't know the complete conversation you had. For me … I've completely lost interest in once area of my life in which I was previously very invested. When I am asked to participate in those activities, I consistently decline. Sometimes I give my reason, but usually I don't. By declining those invitations, I am automatically removing some people from my friend circle because that interest was our only commonality.

And again … this may not apply … but your story helped me be more okay with mine. So … thanks you.

I love this phrasing By declining those invitations, I am automatically removing some people from my friend circle.

This is, to tangent and not, the flipside of something I was trying to explain to my 18-year-old yesterday when she reflexively was going to say no to an invitation.

If we keep saying NO then at some point people stop inviting.

And that’s what we want because that was our only common and we don’t want to anymore – – that’s the goal. No more invitations. Now you’ve gotten ME thinking.

🤍
