Right before a recent work trip, I decided to go wild:
I booked an eyebrow threading appointment.
Now if you know me, you know my version of self-care usually looks like budgeting, checking investments, and fixing that weird rattle in the fridge: anything that makes future-me feel more steady.
(You know, the sexy stuff.)
Once a year, however, I get a wild-hair (pun firmly intended) and venture into the world of beauty treatments.
And, because it’s not my authentic space as we say around here, it always feels a bit vulnerable.
I went. I got threaded. I loved how my brows turned out.
And then came the pitch.
The salon owner did what salon owners do and tried to sell me serums, which, fine, maybe I even need.
Yet instead of building me up, she led with:
You look old for 55.
Cue deflation.
I walked in feeling great. I walked out with amazing eyebrows and feeling not as great.
And because I’m me (curious coach brain consistently activated), I immediately mused:
Is *this* how people feel after a
discovery callConnection Conversation with me?
Spoiler: nope. never.
(And yes, I ask because feedback isn’t scary when you lead with connection, not criticism.)
Here’s what the experience reminded me:
You can leave people feeling as though they cannot do this (*whatever* this is) alone and they n e e d you.
Or
You can leave them feeling as though they’re already doing pretty dang great and having the right support could make their path even better.
I’m scenario number two. Always have been, always will be.
I’m not here to zoom in on your life’s crow’s feet or sell you serum you didn’t ask for.
I’m here to help you build consistency, momentum, and deep trust in your Future Self without making you feel you’re starting from scratch or ‘less than’ for the path you’re already striding down.
The coaching space I create is built on this foundation: you're already whole. You're already capable. And having someone in your corner who sees that first, while helping illuminate next steps, makes all the difference.
🥸 Eyebrows optional.
👏🏽 yes! In my coaching and management I want people leaving feeling that they are taking something positive with them! That’s just me. We are kindred spirits.
You're literally the only human that is able to look good on a Zoom call without all the filters or excessive makeup. I'm glad you're calling out predatory marketing tactics for what they are... gross. "You're less than, only I can make you greater" messaging is shallow and a sure sign that a business owner/provider probably didn't get hugged enough as a kid. Ick.
